Education and Training Offer

The Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest offers several Bachelor, Master’s level and Doctorate degree programmes, leading to different specializations in the fields of Architecture and Urbanism.

The Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are coordinated by the three Faculties of the University: the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Interior Architecture, and the Faculty of Urban Planning. The Doctorate degree courses are managed by the Doctoral Schools with core subjects in the fields of Architecture and Urbanism.

According to the national Law of Education and relevant European regulations, the courses dedicated to the education and training of architects are five or six years full-time programmes, leading to the Master’s level of qualification (level 7 EQF).

Since September 2008, the Diploma of Architect awarded by the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism after the successful the completion of the six years of full-time studies in Architecture, is recognized for free movement and professional practice in the member states of EU, in the base of the Directive 2005/36/EC (2013/55/EC) of the European Parliament and of the Council, on the recognition of professional qualifications.

As a conclusion of the periodical evaluations started in 1998, RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) has consistently validated the Diploma of Architect awarded by the Faculty of Architecture of the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism, allowing the graduates to be exempted from the RIBA examinations Part One and Part Two in view of the registration in ARB (Architects Registration Board) for the professional practice in UK.

The academic year usually starts on October 1st and lasts until the middle of July. Students are required to enrol for each year of study; enrolment is usually scheduled for the first ten days of October.

Teaching is structured in two semesters of study. In addition to the continuous assessment during the semester, there are two examination terms, in January-February and in June-July. In September, a third assessment term is set for the modules in the 2nd semester.

The curriculum of each programme includes internships in design studios, in administration or in research structures, according to the specialization and level, in Romania or abroad. The university offers international internships for students through the dedicated office.

Study trips in Romania and abroad are organized each year, usually during the spring term.

The graduation work (dissertation, diploma projects) is guided by tutor(s); the graduation follows specific regulations for each course and requires previous registration of the candidate.

The diploma projects are assessed by international juries which generally meet in July (first session) and March (second session).

The international applicants for Romanian taught courses are expected to have completed the preparatory year of learning Romanian language and to attest their proficiency at least at B2 level.

The applicants for the Architecture English taught course (6 years of full-time study) are expected to pass an English language proficiency test or to demonstrate an English language qualification at international level B2 or higher by one of the following proficiency certificates: FCE (B2 level), CAE (C1 level), CAMBRIDGE PROFICIENCY (C2 level), TOEFL score 45, IELTS band 5 (B2 level), ECL (B2 level), FIDES (B2 level). For this course, the qualification test is held in English.

Professional Development Courses

Postgraduate non-degree courses are offered for professionals which intend to specialize in a specific field. The applicants are expected to be in possession of a Bachelor or Master Degree Diploma. These courses are usually fee-based.

The offer of professional development courses considers the dynamics of the labour market in the field of architecture and urban planning, in relation with the complex and diversified requirements of the contemporary society, in order to provide increased chances of professional integration.

The professional development courses are concluded with a certificate which attests the acquired professional competences.
