ST-116 Practical Applications - Architectural Technology (1)

The Faculty of Architecture / Architecture
2nd Year, sem 2, 2023-2024 | Compulsory Course | Hours/Week: 2L | ECTS Credits: 1
Department:
Technical Sciences
Course Leader:
lect.dr.arh. Monica Mureșanu
Teaching language:
Romanian
Learning outcomes:
The ability to relate the representation of architecture (the designed object) to its materialization (the actual object), considering all the drafting standards of a technical project.
Understanding the conditioning factors imposed by material characteristics in architectural design and the application of principles learned in the Timber and Steel Constructions courses (semester I) and Masonry and Reinforced Concrete Constructions (semester 2).
Application of basic principles of construction physics for buildings of low complexity; ensuring interior comfort and climate protection with suitable materials and technologies.
Knowledge of systems, subsystems, and constructive elements, and their applied use in two proposed constructions within practical activities, based on the four basic materials: wood, masonry, concrete, and steel.
Familiarity with technical terms and correct usage of specialized vocabulary.
Content:
The study topics proposed for each module follow the main chapters covered in the courses: Timber and Steel Constructions (semester I) and Masonry and Reinforced Concrete Constructions (semester 2).
The following will be studied:
Module 1 Design of an individual dwelling using load-bearing masonry and wood.
Module 2 Design of the same dwellings, this time using reinforced concrete frames and steel profiles.
Teaching Method:
Discussions and individual or collective assesments based on sketches and documentation prepared by students.
Assessment:
The submission of a portfolio containing the final-drafted drawings will take place on the scheduled presentation day, according to the timetable.
To pass the course, a grade of 5.00 is required without rounding.
The evaluation criteria include:
• Quality of sketches and documentation as part of the study, as well as the correctness and quality of proposed solutions.
• Accuracy of graphical representations.
• Active participation in practical applications.
