Learning outcomes:

It aims to provide the necessary knowledge concerning the role played by landscape architecture in architecture and urban design. Provides the basics of reading, analysis, interpretation of anthropogenic and urban landscape, into the natural landscape, following the development of space perceptual sensitivity through landscape orientations; forming a type of analytically thinking and the correlation between landscape, urban framework and architectural object. It also aims to make sure that students acquire the language of the profession with a view to the required inter-, multi- and trans-disciplinary activity. The course focuses on learning and acquiring essential elements of the evolution of garden art, analysis, design and remarkable realization in domain. The ultimate goal is to train competent in this field and an attitude of professional culture on addressing various problems, such as urban garden that element representation, its role in improving the quality of living and sustainability, garden - element of continuity and modernity, etc.

Content:

- Introduction. General structure. Context.
- The definition of the concept of LANDSCAPE. The relation between LANDSCAPE-SITE-URBAN FRAME-ENVIRONMENT-ARCHITECTURAL OBJECT.
- Classification, typology; elements of sensitive reading of Landscape.
- Landscape structure. The relationship between environment, Sit, Urban framework, object architecture and Macro-, Mezzo-, Landscape.
- The relation between Building and Landscape; urban-architectural intervention in the Macro-, Mezzo-, Landscape.
- Garden - philosophical and aesthetic direction. Cosmogonic theories. Archetypes garden. Sit and sacredness.
- Elements of language on reading and interpreting the landscape. Relationship Architecture / Construction / Frame Urban / Landscape / City.
- Perceptual, aesthetic, symbolic, functional, cultural and historical Tools. Intervention in the landscape.
- Evolution of Gardens Art in historical development. Heritage and Art Garden (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, modern and contemporary, future trends)
- Traditional art styles of gardens (geometric, organic and mixed style, styles of XX-XXI centuries). Current trends, achievements.
- Relationship between: GARDEN - ARCHITECTURE - URBAN FRAMEWORK - City and Territory
- Landscape styles: modern tendencies of style development.
- Aesthetic principles and categories in landscape design. Functional and esthetic and landscape architecture.
- Patterns of green spaces. Classifications, categories, features.
- Designing urban green spaces. Green function. The green areas in the city. Morphological relationships of green. Relation space / volume.

Teaching Method:

Lectures with illustrations, invitees, case studies and examples, thematic movie.

Assessment:

Examination – 100% (several short works-evaluation, applied to the end of the course - 10-25% / 100%)
