Learning outcomes:

- The understanding of the concept of Urban Landscape as a succession in the suite of the specific notions within the professional training
- Introduction of the multidisciplinary aspects within the landscape study; the development of the capacity to interpret the way of forming an urban community by analyzing the urban landscape
- The understanding of the urban landscape as event, as unique moment in the life of the city
- The awareness of the variability of the conception scale in landscape design; general – particular coordination; transforming the landscape from event into an aesthetic object, through the conception of detail level

Content:

1. Curs introductiv. Ce este Peisajul Urban? Definiții, interpretări, interdisciplinaritate.
Introductive course. What is the Urban Landscape? Definitions, interpretations, interdisciplinarity
2. The first urban landscapes. Urban awareness
3. Temporality, Spatiality, Features. Short history of urban landscape – from antiquity to science fiction
4. Urban landscape structure. Genius Loci. The relation with the natural landscape.
5. Types of urban landscapes. Nature in the city.
6. Natural and anthropic within the urban landscape. Specific aspects, interactions, interpenetrations.
7. Landscape and society – the role of the society in shaping the landscape. About the urban ambient and urban ambiance
8. The aesthetical and social value of the landscape. Representation of the urban landscape.
9. Unconventional methods of studying the urban landscape. Art as a witness to urban evolution – painting, film, music, literature, video clip
10. Urban landscape and cultural identity. Landscape characteristic of different geographical and/or continental structures.
11. The Romanian urban landscape – specific features, influences of the socialist regime in the urban landscape structure and the urban image.
12. Technology and technical detail. The psychology of perception within the urban landscape.
