Learning outcomes:
Acquiring knowledge related to building equipment and utilities to attend the sustainable requirements of indoor comfort and also related to fire safety of buildings structure and inside occupants.
Understanding the conditional relationships between technical building equipment and the other components / parts of building area in order to ensure the sustainability of the construction an environment nearby.
Knowledge of the differences between the passive and the active approach in sustainable design of buildings;
Correctly identify the technical equipment and building systems related to the concept of construction sustainability;
Suitable evaluation of technical areas for utilitarian and technological equipment related to functional and comfort requirements;
Application of building quality requirements lows, driving the building to almost net zero energy consumption and obtaining a neutral impact on the environment from building supplied with high energy efficient equipment's.
Content:
1. Environment. Resources. Wind energy; solar energy; water energy; geothermal energy; energy derived from biomass: biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas.
2. Thermal comfort and indoor air quality - sustainable approach. Concepts. Sources. Integration of passive and active heating and cooling systems. The use of renewable energy sources. Operating principles . Equipment's. Technical spaces. Sick building syndrome.
3. Hygienic-sanitary comfort -sustainable approach. Drinking water treatment and compliance. Domestic hot water. Preparation. The use of renewable energy sources. Equipment's and systems. Technical spaces.
4. Visual comfort - sustainable approach. The influence of natural light. Light zoning of building. Scheduling activities. Artificial light sources. Technical spaces.
5. Electricity production in place. Sources. Mechanical energy conversion. Luminous energy conversion. Operating principle's. Equipment and systems. Technical spaces.

Assessment:
Summative, written exam, multiple choice exam, 30 questions to be answered, one or two correct answers
