Learning outcomes:

- understanting the particular approach of an interior design project dedicated to a space with a function dedicated to public utility
- education of the capacity of putting together various materials, textures, colors and styles in interior design, formation of a personal culture in the field
- theoretical knowledge for realizing an interior design arrangement: details, documentation, coordination of specialities (structure, installations, artistic components, realization of furniture etc.)
- presentation of a coherent design concept, based on an original approach

Content:

Students will detail their own project realized for the topic CONVERSION (EXTENSION, REHABILITATION, SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION)- 2nd semester of the 4th year. Within this project cultural functions, office spaces, commercial and education spaces have been studied, according to the specificity of each studio. As a work basis the computer files or the projects delivered previously to the Synthesis of Design Department will be used. A coherent vision on the approach is requested (a specific style or manner is asked, according to the scenario of each project - the architectural program, the conclusions regarding the sociological study about the users of the building, the sustainable design component. In this sense, the concept of the project will be illustrated on MOODBOARD that will explain images, materials, textures but also motto-s, keywords and sketches. Pieces required:
1st Phase (2 weeks): Documentation on the working style of famous designers, on sustainable design, with specific materials and technologies, a concept for the design approach (in a study Notebook A4 size)
2nd Phase (3 weeks): Moodboard (tridimensional presentation possible), Working documentation: furniture, details, lighting, materials for walls and floors, color test pieces, prices (A4 format, completing the Study Notebook), rendered plans for all levels (A1 or A2 format), sc.1:50
The 1st phase and 2nd phases will be presented in an intermediary deadline (panel correction).
3rd Phase (6 weeks): - general rendered plan – the complete plan including the access area with the arrangement of near exterior spaces (garden, paths, landscape design) ; 2 perpendicular sections rendering interior textures, furniture and lights, The study of a main space considered to be iconic to the building (2-400 sqm), Elevation of walls in the chosen space (including main functions of the building); Perspectives (at least 2) from the day area; Detail of the sanitary spaces, including the ones for disabled people; Detail of a furniture piece imagined by the student (incorporated to the architectural project); Electrical plan with mentioning the lightening objects and installations; Plan of the ceiling; written report describing the design intervention proposed by the student (partition, furniture, materials, textures, installations, sustainable approach, number of users, design measures in order to respond to the requests of constructions quality
The project will be realized in a 2 students team (phases I and II) and individually (phase III).

Teaching Method:

Theoretical lectures and studio activity, guided by the teachers, site study (building site, showroom, construction fairs etc.)

Assessment:

1st Phase and studio activity - 25% grade, 2nd Phase, final delievery and presentation - 75% grade

Generally a lot of students express their option for this projeect. The guiding team has its workinsg possibilities limited to 120 students (the maximum accepted). The guiding team assumes the right to establish yearly the selection modality (to draw lots, selection of students with outstanding results in the field of design, exhibitions, very good marks in Shape Study etc.)
