Department:
Technical Sciences
Course Leader:
conf.dr.arh. Gabriel Negoescu
Teaching language:
Romanian
Learning outcomes:
Introduction to the legislation related to quality in construction.
Review of the design knowledge acquired so far that is directly related to the quality requirements.
Detailing of the “Fire safety” requirement – defining for architectural design and detailing.
Content:
COURSE
- Fire phenomenology, terminology, factors of fire occurrence and development; fire risk assessment.
- Classification of building assemblies by fire resistance and reaction to fire; implications of fire risk.
- Fire stability level: input data and consequences for building assemblies.
- Specific building assemblies: curtain walls, assemblies with cavities, galleries, ducts, atriums, ceramic materials.
- Safety and accessibility in use
- Protection against the effects of smoke: smoke venting, pressurisation.
- Means of escape: classification, travel distances and evacuation flows.
- Ordinary civil buildings: classification and specific measures.
- High-rise and very high-rise buildings, buildings with crowded rooms, car parks.

PROJECT
Compliance of the architectural project with the “Fire safety” requirement:
- number of occupants, evacuation flows and means of escape;
- compartmentation and limitation of fire and smoke spread;
- fire safety systems and installations;
safety and accessibility in use.
The assignment is developed on the architectural project from semester 7 and is submitted as drawings and written documentation, according to the brief.
Teaching Method:
COURSE
Lecture with visual support. Contribution of invited specialists presenting specific aspects of the design – construction relationship.

PROJECT
Individual and group design reviews and guidance.
Assessment:
COURSE
Continuous assessment – in-class tests/exercises during the semester: 5 tests, amounting to one extra point added to the exam grade (0.20 points per test)
Summative assessment – exam in the examination session
Passing the project with a minimum unrounded grade of 5 is a mandatory condition for admission to the exam.

PROJECT
Final assessment – presentation and grading of the project

Calculation method
Exam grade + maximum 1 point earned during the semester = 40%
Project grade = 60%
Passing the course requires a minimum grade of 5 (five) in the exam, a minimum grade of 5 (five) for the project, and a final average of at least 5 (five), without rounding.
