The master’s programme is aimed at graduates of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture, as well as graduates of Architecture and other fields, including Sociology, Urban Engineering, Geography, Public Administration, Law, and related disciplines.
The “Urban Management for Competitive Cities” programme aims to familiarize students with the challenges and dynamics of urban development today, both globally and in Romania. In particular, the programme focuses on acquiring knowledge and skills related to strategic approaches to urban development and urban management practices.
Within the Master’s programme, students examine strategies and the ways in which they are formulated, as well as public policies, urban programmes, and projects — including both successful initiatives and failures. Particular attention is given to understanding the diversity and dynamics of relationships among “urban actors”, while different development scenarios and comparative perspectives are also analyzed.
The programme is structured over four semesters: 1) a foundation semester – shared with the other master’s programmes, focusing on in-depth knowledge and on establishing a common academic foundation among students coming from different undergraduate backgrounds; 2) a semester dedicated primarily to planning and design, combining theoretical understanding with practical teamwork and the development of structured urban interventions; 3) a specialized semester – focused on public policy and urban management, providing students with specialized knowledge and practical perspectives in these fields, and 4) a semester centered on documentation and research, including the preparation of the master’s graduation thesis.
