The library of the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism is one of the most important academic resources available to students throughout their studies.
With a tradition spanning more than a century, officially established in 1912 and initially built on donations from the first professors of the School of Architecture, the library has continuously evolved while preserving its core mission: to support the learning, research, and professional development of students, master’s and doctoral students, and academic staff. At present it is the oldest and most valuable library specializing in architecture and urban planning in Romania, holding an exceptional documentary heritage alongside modern resources adapted to the current requirements of higher education.
The library’s documentary holdings comprise approximately 200,000 printed publications and special collections, ranging from architectural treatises and albums to specialized journals, doctoral theses, cartographic documents, and rare volumes published between the 16th and 19th centuries. The collections are continuously developed in accordance with the study programmes and the bibliographic recommendations of the academic staff, ensuring that the available resources respond to the actual needs of the educational process and design activities.
However, the library offers much more than access to books. The reading room and BiblioHub are spaces dedicated to individual study, teamwork, and the exchange of ideas, complemented by access to international scientific databases, e-books, the online catalogue, the Liberty Link mobile application, and modern information and research services. At the same time, the library organizes book launches, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, documentary film evenings, and other activities that contribute to the development of an active academic community engaged with current debates in architecture, urban planning, and design.
At a time when information is available almost instantly, the essential skill is no longer mere access to information, but rather the ability to identify credible sources, critically analyze content, and responsibly use new technologies, including AI-powered applications. The library plays an active role in developing these skills by providing users with the necessary support for rigorous documentation and high-quality research.
