Travel Information

1.Where do you travel? A Few Words about Bucharest

Bucharest is located in the southern part of the country, in the middle of the Romanian Plain. It stretches on a 238 sq area and its population counts around 2,300,000 inhabitants.

Bucharest has been the center of numerous historical events and it has been mentioned for the first time in 1459, in a document issued by Vlad the Impeller.

“Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism stands in the center of the city, in University Square. Its old building is listed as heritage monument.

Henry Coanda Airport at Otopeni is the gate to Romania, being situated 20 km north of Bucharest, about 30 min. of driving.

The Romanian currency is Leul. Starting with July 1, 2005, the old banknotes with “thousand lei” will circulate in parallel with the “Heavy Leu”. The equivalence is as such: 10,000 lei = 1 heavy leu; both currencies have the same value.
