UP-3 | Technique of Urban Design

Learning outcomes:

It offers students specific knowledge that will enable them to get an operational understanding of urban intervention. It trains the technical and design skills of the architect-urban planner to draw up the planning documentation for a UDP and Local Area Plan.

Content:

1. CONCEPT DEFINITION – The role of the urban planner and the legal framework. Locality and territory.
2. Elements of URBAN GEOGRAPHY
3. Urban hygiene and the localization of buildings, objective and subjective terms.
4. Location study.
5. Urban ensemble: components, types, limits. Housing ensemble.
6. Partition of lots.
7. Quality of living within a housing ensemble.
8. The policy and technique of space arrangement and refurbishment.
9. Urban equipment: types; stages of equipment and its display.
10. Equipment centers (major, minor)
11. Public squares of particular kinds: civic square, railway station square, representative square; commercial arcade.
12. Urban traffic and public transport.
13. Regulations and rules.
14. Practical activity: a little design application.

Lectures with illustrations and comments

Assessment:

Examination (50%) and application (50%)
