The Faculty of Architecture / Architecture
4th Year, sem 1, 2011-2012

ST-16 | Architectural Technology Design Studio (1)

Compulsory Course | Hours/Week: 3P | ECTS Credits: 3

Department: Technical Sciences
Titular:
conf.dr.arh. Radu Pană
Teaching Staff:
conf.dr.arh. Crenguţa Bratu, conf.dr.arh. Mihai Opreanu, conf.dr.arh. Gabriel Negoescu, lect.dr.arh. Zina Macri, lect.dr.arh. Gabriela Mindu, lect.dr.arh. Cristina Pană, lect.drd.arh. Ioana Şerbănescu, asistenţi şi preparatori, cadre didactice asociate
Learning outcomes:
Integration of theoretical knowledge aquired at various disciplines of technical Sciences Department and using them to design an architectural object, having as guiding discipline Building Physics' (1).
Ability to control the balance between technological and architectural requirements, both as a whole and in detail, and to coordinate a unique coherent act, able to make possible the true building of the construction, with accent on aspects regarding the relationship between building and its environment.
Knoledge to estimate energy needs for a building and ability to increase, using adequate architectural means, energy efficiency of a building.
Content:
The study uses as basis a previously designed building at Architecture Studio (multifamily dwellings), analysing the parametres which define Energy Efficiency, through national end European norms, integrating in the design process knowledges aquired at Building Physics' course.
It is evaluated the impact that building geometry (both plan and volume), thermal characteristics of each anvelope component and building site particularities have on thermal energy needs during building use.
The study requires an optimization of energy consumption for the designed building, using adequate architectural means.
The complex study is materialised in a suite of construction details showing solutions for different 'nodes' of the building anvelope.
Teaching Method:
Studio guidance is done by mixt groups of professionals, both professors of the Department and associate professors; the activity includes thematic presentations, individual guidance at the drawing board and collective debates.
Assessment:
First stage of the evaluation is the analysis and comments of designs in the studio. Final evaluation is done by a jury using the following criteria: rightness of addressing several specialty requirements and integration in a quality architectural result; consistency of architectural conception with Architecture Studio work; quality of personal technical documentation; logic and clarity of written parts and drawings.
