Learning outcomes:
Understanding the relation between the architectural project and built-up construction.
Understanding the technical issues in both the design and building up of the architectural constructions.
Understanding the key role of the interdisciplinary collaboration for the design and construction of buildings.
Understanding the effects of using different materials and construction technologies on the architectural quality of the designed constructions.
Knowing the key issues of a building site.
Learning the make-up technologies for different construction materials and compounds as well as of the construction market.
Content:
The students have the opportunity to get more in-depth knowledge regarding the architectural and construction engineering. After 3 years of more theoretical study, the students have now the possibility to get some practical experience in the field of materials architectural constructions, site-specific issues and construction market.
The activity is split in two main parts:
Supervised site visits.
Ia. Site visits for observing different construction stages sites (foundation, structure, cladding, finishing and building equipments)
IIa. Study visits for the construction market (materials warehouses and factories)
Individual study
For each visited site, the student is asked to prepare a file containing:
General description of the site with information about the building, address, designer, construction stage, architectural and technical characteristics (construction system, construction technology, materials, detailing solutions)
Detailed analysis of 3 (three) construction parts (infrastructure, structure – partition walls relation, etc.).
The description of each site should comprise sketches, pictures and personal views.
Teaching Method:
Site visits, presentations, discussions.
