ST-74 Finishings (1)

The Faculty of Architecture / Architectural Conservation and Restoration
2nd Year, sem 1, 2020-2021 | Compulsory Course | Hours/Week: 2C+1L | ECTS Credits: 3
Department:
Technical Sciences
Course Leader:
conf.dr.arh Zina Macri
Teaching Staff:
arh.dr. Oana Pavăl
Learning outcomes:

Development of the necessary skills for creating an architectural design that satisfies the users' different exigencies.
Acquiring design principles and methods, ability to find specific design solutions for the nonstructural/ non bearing parts of the buildings and their finishing details.
Proper knowledge and understanding of building’s physical problems that may occur. Proper knowledge and understanding of contemporary and traditional execution technologies.
Developing the ability to relate the physical problems and the execution technologies to the multiple functions of the building itself, in order to create comfortable interior spaces and to protect the construction elements against environmental aggressive factors.

Content:

Buildings' quality evaluation: exigencies and user needs/requirements; evaluation criteria, performance levels/parameters with respect to building’s components.
Fundamentals of building physics – the behavior of building components in the presence of water, humidity, heat, solar radiation; sun shading devices; acoustics.
Energy efficiency and building design in detail; thermal insulation; water-proofing.
Finishing of the building envelope – interior/exterior walls. Continuous coatings, renders, paints. Wall cladding.
Fair-faced masonry walls, exposed concrete – composition, finishing, protection.
Ceiling finishing; contemporary solutions for traditional systems.
Windows and doors; basic theoretical elements; design quality standards in traditional and contemporary joinery.
Thermal, water, energetic and acoustic efficient joinery - best practices for Romania.

Teaching Method:

Online lectures, accompanied by explanatory video projections.

Assessment:

The final mark will consist of: 50% activity during the semester and 50% written paper work during final examination period.
