ST-79 | Mathematics

Compulsory Course | Hours/Week: 1C+1S | ECTS Credits: 2

Department: Technical Sciences
Titular:
lect.dr.mat. Anca Vitcu
Learning outcomes:
a) understand the visual principles of geometric composition;
b) understand the concepts of fractal geometry and capacity of applying them in design projects;
c) ability to create design projects that satisfy aesthetic constraints.
Content:
The mathematical course provides insight into the design process and gives consistency to design projects through visual structure. It is a support for understanding the visual principles of geometric composition. These principles include an understanding of classical proportioning systems such as the golden section, geometrical figures associated with golden section and root rectangles, as well as interrelationships of forms, and regulating lines. The types of symmetries will be approached based on modern mathematics theories and analyzed through examples provided by ornamental art and art objects of different cultures. The role of geometric fractals in design and art projects are described and specialized software are employed for real-time demo. The seminars explain visually the principles of geometric composition and offer a wide selection of design products that are visually analyzed by these principles. For applications a specialized software will be used (Matlab, Maya).
Teaching Method:
Theoretical lectures and applications
Assessment:
Written exam (based on seminar issues) (20%), seminar activity (20%), written exam based on course issues (60%)
