SFA-92 | Perspective

Compulsory Course | Hours/Week: 2C+1L | ECTS Credits: 4

Department: Study of Form and Ambience
Titular:
conf.dr.arh. Doina Niculae
Teaching Staff:
asist. dr. arh. Sorana Untanu, asist. arh. Valeria Potenchi, prep. arh. Ioana Avram, prep. arh. Elvira Selischi
Learning outcomes:
Starting from the description of the mechanisms of human sight, the course introduces students to present space in the perspective picture. The goal of practical work is to make students express the architectural perspective fast and expressively, focusing on in-depth understanding of this mechanism that together with perspective by observation stands for basic ways of “view in space”.
Content:
Lectures
1. Projection systems. Proprieties of conical projection;
2. Human sight and mechanism of perspective;
3. Perception in depth and classification of perspective;
4. Free perspective on vertical picture;
5. Measurement points and distance point;
6. Frontal perspective;
7. Drawing of shadows in perspective on vertical picture;
8. “Bird’s eye view” – valuing of shadow and light in depth;
9. Perspective and color;
10. Circle and sphere in perspective. Limits of front perspective;
11. Rendering the depth and intrinsic scale of perspective;
12. Mirroring against a vertical picture;
13. Perspective on a reclined picture;
14. Restitution of perspective.

Practical themes
1. Mixed method of building the perspective;
2. Observation by optical instruments and sketch in free drawing;
3. Perspective with two vanishing points at 1.80 m;
4. Perspective with “over-raised horizon”;
5. Front perspective (from within);
6. Methods to render depth; Metode de redare a profunzimii
7. Color in hand-drawn perspective.
Teaching Method:
Lectures with slides, computer projections, individual drawing, discussions, and correction.
Assessment:
The average mark of the practical work: 50%; final test: 50%.

Notes:
Practical work is correlated to “Study of Form” and computer work. Only one work can be redone at the end of the semester. For the final examination, the student should come up with his portfolio and two further drawings.
