- Learning outcomes:
- Introduction in ergonomics issues, concepts on architectural space in relation with sizing, furniture location, endowment and treatments, in order that main functions specific to human activities take place.
- Content:
- 1. The subject of ergonomics, historiacla background, definitions, purpose
2. Interior space, container and scene of human life.
3. The human scale, ergonomics and the size of rooms
4. Case studies for defining the interior of a dwelling
5. Furniture for dwelling rooms, usual sizes for the furniture, its location
6. Furnishing bathrooms and toilets, kitchens and other ancillary spaces of a dwelling.
7. Basic knowledge concerning furnishing main specific space for usual functions.
8. Introduction in using specific materials, colours, the importance of lighting and light.
Title of practical works:
1. Representation of human scale: Vitruvius, Leonardo Da Vinci, Le Corbusier (sketches, comments on the basis of documentation)
2. Execution of plan and elevations for one’s own dwelling place and bathroom, drawing the dimensions, furnishings, equipment. Proposal for improving the existing situation concerning furniture and equipment.
3. Furnishing the living room, the kitchen and the dining room
4. Documentary sketches – freehand designs concerning furnishing and equipment specific for dwellings (minimum 10 pages A4 format) from the most known specialty reviews.
5. Synthetic work and verification. Equipment and furnishings for a given space having dwelling function. - Teaching Method:
- Lectures, projections. Presentation of documentary material, visits and comments at an exhibition on contemporary housing of high standards, specialties, compilation and presentation by the students of the information collected from bibliography through sketches and memos.
- Assessment:
- Exam (average mark from 3 - 4 case studies representing 30% weight from the total evaluation + verification work representing 40 % from the total evaluation) + verification of knowledge gathered following examination
