SFA-97 | Boat Interior Design

Optional Design Studio | Hours/Week: 5P | ECTS Credits: 5

Department: Study of Form and Ambience
Titular:
conf.dr.arh. Iulius Ionescu
Learning outcomes:
Organizing an environment in specific conditions: limited space, in motion, with variable geometry on the three directions, responding to aesthetic and technological criteria in choosing the materials and textures.
Content:
The theme of the project:
This project proposes the designing of a famous boat interior, according to data specified in the design theme.
Phase 1:
In the study determined according to the attached drawing parts of the theme (plan and longitudinal section) it will be required the organization of space for 6 persons (2 parents, 2 children and 2 crew members) for housing during the cruise lasting a month.
Will consider the following:
▪ respond the functional requirements with low consumption of space
▪ allow easy browsing of space, without barriers or elements that exceed a certain limit the movement
▪ allow the inclined position of the boat during the cruse without moving or changing geometry of the spatial components of the interior; the furniture will be fixed, with strictly defined variance, easy to handle
▪ maintain the consistency of formal and stylistic unity of interior and exterior of the boat

Phase 2:
It will complete the study of the solution set in the previous phase of the project by determining the elements that make up living space. It will study the relevant parts of an area chosen for detailing by each student with the workshop tutor.
The design details will consider the following:
▪ designing soft, organic forms, without sharp edges or parts
▪ the design will be for industrial execution with smart, practical, ergonomic solutions
Teaching Method:
Theoretical exposure at the beginning of the project, individual corrections, explanations on the blackboard and computer, computer model.
Assessment:
Activity during the project 50%, final project evaluation 50%.
Bibliography:
Specialized books and magazines.
