Learning outcomes:

It aims to provide the necessary knowledge concerning the role played by landscape architecture in architecture and urban design. It also aims to make sure that students acquire the language of the profession with a view to the required interdisciplinary activity.

Content:

The definition of the concept of LANDSCAPE. The relation between LANDSCAPE-SITE-ENVIRONMENT.
Classification, typology; elements of reading.
The relation between Building and Landscape; urban-architectural intervention in the Big Landscape.
Landscape styles: characteristics, evolution.
Landscape styles: modern tendencies of style development.
Aesthetic principles and categories in landscape design. Functional and esthetic and landscape architecture.
Morphological elements of laying out the Green Areas. Vegetation.
Water, sculptural objects, micro-furniture, etc.
The system of green areas. The urban park.
Gardens, squares, planted promenades.
Leisure areas in the outskirts of the town.
National parks, reservations, tourist zones and spas.
Design, execution, maintenance elements.
Case study: contemporary achievements (worldwide experience).

Possible design themes:
Urban park (recreation and appropriate arrangement according to a dominant profile);
Development and arrangement of an existing park;
Exhibition park;
Landscaped area in an urban interstitial fabric;
Landscape study with a view to recycling and arranging an urban space;
Urban square (comparative study);
Landscape fitting out study along structuring urban axes.
