ST-10 | Architectural Finishing Systems (2)

Compulsory Course | Hours/Week: 2C+1L | ECTS Credits: 3

Department: Technical Sciences
Titular:
prof.dr.arh. Ana-Maria Dabija
Learning outcomes:
- understanding of the buiding from the technical-architectural perspective
- capacity of analysis of the non-structuralsub-assemblies of stairs, roofs (waterproofed and shingled), joineries
- technical interdisciplinary corelations (implications of the structural and installation systems over the conformation of the technologic-architectural detail)
- knowledge of the generic systems that accomplish the technological-architectural sub-assemblies
- understanding of the role of the technical-architectural detail in the building assembly
- understanding of the relationship between the environmental agents that act upon the building and the conformation of the technical-architectural detail for stairs, roofs (waterproofed and shingled), joineries
- understanding of the relation between building materials and products, the answer to the exterior and interior environmental agents that act upon the building and the aestetic demands in concieving the non-structural sub-assemblies and architectural details of the building
- mastering of designprinciples and methods , solving and accomplishing of non-structural sub-assemblies and architectural details for stairs, roofs (waterproofed and shingled), joineries
- capacity of choosing the optimum solution in given (environment, building materials and products, function of the space etc) conditions
- ability for concieving and accomplishing designs of stairs, roofs (waterproofed and shingled), joineries, from functional and asetetic point of view, according to the requested exigencies and performances
- development of a technical vocavulary in the field of the non-structural assemblies and architectural finishings of stairs, roofs (waterproofed and shingled)
Content:
Principles for the designing of the stairs and flights, in the buildings; fundamental theoetical elements
Stairs with bearing flights
Stairs with bearing steps
The roofing, as a part of the sloped component of the envelope; fundamental theoetical elements; quality requests for the designing of the thermal – hygro – energetic efficient roof
Water proof roofings; the analysis of the main components; traditional and modern materials and structures
Complex water proof roofings; examples and case studies
Roof framing coverings; specific structures for the gutters and corniches; “flake” type materials; the analysis of the main components; traditional and modern materials and structures
Roof framing coverings; plate-type materials; the analysis of the main components; traditional and modern materials and structures
Roof framing coverings; diches and spouts principles for their settlement
Joineries in buildings; fundamental theoetical elements; quality requests for their designing
Traditional joineries; current materials and structures for their resistant component
Performant joineries; current materials and structures for their resistant component
Current materials and structures for the closing component of the joineries
Performant hygro– thermal and acoustic joineries, appropriate for Romania
Teaching Method:
The course passes through the following chapters: stairs, roofs (waterproofed and shingled), joineries
The imposed exigencies and the performances are analized according to the conditions of use (functionability – durability – aestetics), as well as to the realities of the ways of execution, the technological level and the display of the available materials. They all determine the technical solutions as well the efficiency degree that they represent. Lectures "ex cathedra", based on materials prepared and presented in digital format (course support). Occasionally there are invited guests on specific technical topics.
Assessment:
Semestrial written grid-type exam, with the possibility of consulting written documentation; the mark consists of a mean value between the grid test (40%), the value of the tutored aplication carried out in the studio (50%) and the the value of the staircase exercise carried out as individual study (10%); The minimum acceptable mark for the periodical evaluation is 5 (five).
