IOSUD – UAUIM is the institution organizing doctoral study programmes within the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning. The IOSUD – UAUIM was established by reorganizing the university doctoral studies that operated through the existence, until 2011, of only one doctoral school: SITT – Space, Image, Text, Territory. This doctoral school was established in 2003 based on the consortium between UAUIM and University of Bucharest – Centre of Excellence for the Study of Image (CESI), the Center of Hermeneutics (CH), Faculty of Philosophy (FF) within “Al. I. Cuza” University (UAIC) of Iași subsequently joining this programme.

The establishment of the second doctoral school of the IOSUD-UAUIM – the Doctoral School of Urban Planning was approved in 2015, pursuant to the law, when the two distinct fields of doctoral studies were defined in the internal structure of the institution: “Architecture” and “Urbanism”, within the fundamental field of science “Humanities and Arts”, science branch of “Architecture and Urbanism” (position 50 within the Nomenclature of fields and specializations/university study programmes).

Since 2005, doctoral studies in the UAUIM are organized in the Bologna system (third cycle of studies).
